Deputies, representatives of central public authorities, and organizations of
trade unions and employers attended the event.
Committee chairman Vasyl Khara opened the hearings and declared, "Observance of fundamental rights of the employees for the freedom of association and protection of the right for assembly, consolidation of actions of public authorities, trade unions, and employers´ organizations is an essential precondition of social peace, stability, economic advance, and development of the civic society."
V. Khara admitted that public authorities have recently been infringing on the rights of the trade unions, which impedes fulfillment of constitutional authorities by the trade unions, and worsens protection of workers´ interests.
Deputy Head of the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine Hryhorii Osovyi focused on the activity of public authorities against the trade unions and their units. He claimed that this activity is well-planned and aims at appropriation of trade unions´ property, destabilization of work of the Federation of Trade Unions, and distraction from fulfillment of its statutory obligations.
"Constant complains from the trade unions to the International Labour Organization prove that mechanisms of control over observance of fundamental civil rights for association are not effective," said V. Kostrytsia, national correspondent of the International Labour Organization.
Participants of the hearings addressed the president of Ukraine with a request to stop illegal interference of the Prosecution General of Ukraine into the legitimate activity of the trade unions, especially the Federation of Trade Unions, which aggravates social tension and raises distrust of citizens in the public authorities.
Participants of the hearings also recommend the Verkhovna Rada to reject the bill on amendments to several legislative acts of Ukraine regarding price formation to prevent suspending trade unions and other non-governmental organizations from control over the establishments and observance of state price formation discipline.
